Description of Sprint Broadband Direct

What is the technology that Sprint Broadband DirectSM uses?

Sprint Broadband Direct uses exclusive digital frequencies to provide two-way, high speed Internet access to homes and businesses. This service allows use of the Internet at speeds faster than today's dial-up modems.

This frequency technology has been in use for more than 30 years to provide analog signal transmission. To create Sprint Broadband Direct, Sprint has reallocated the analog spectrum and converted it to digital, providing what consumers nationwide have been begging for--high speed Internet access.

Exclusively licensed, wireless, digital frequencies are a perfect medium for transmitting digital data powerfully and directly to your home or office.

How does Sprint Broadband Direct work?

From a customer's computer, data travels through the broadband modem to the digital transceiver on the outside of the customer's location. The data is transmitted via a wireless signal from the digital transceiver to a Sprint point of presence (POP). The Sprint POP routes the request to the Internet, and the corresponding response is sent back to the Sprint POP. The Sprint POP transmits the reply back to the customer's digital transceiver, which is routed through cable to the broadband modem. The modem processes the signal and sends the information to the customer's computer.

Is Sprint Broadband Direct a commercial or residential service?

Sprint Broadband Direct provides high-speed connectivity to both small and mid-sized businesses as well as homes.

Is Sprint Broadband Direct always on?

Because Sprint Broadband Direct is 'always on', the service is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

What is the Sprint Broadband Direct Acceptable Use Policy?

The Acceptable Use Policy provides instructions for how Sprint Broadband Direct can be used. To insure the quality of your service, all Sprint Broadband Direct customers are required to comply with the common sense policies set forth in the Acceptable Use Policy. This policy can be viewed here, and is subject to change without notice.

Can I perform PING sessions?

Sprint Broadband Direct is an "always on" service, therefore, continual pinging is completely unnecessary and degrades your service and everyone's enjoyment of Sprint Broadband Direct. Continuous ping sessions performed simultaneously with other sessions, such as surfing, receiving e-mail or conducting a file transfer will not help you maintain access or gain quicker access-it will actually degrade your service because of the sharing of bandwidth. Excessive pinging will not only erode overall network performance for you, but for everyone else on the network and is a violation of the Acceptable Use Policy.

Can I bring my laptop home from work and use Sprint Broadband?

If you have Sprint Broadband at the office and at home, you can use your laptop to connect from both locations. If you only have the service installed at one location, you may only physically connect from that location. The Broadband service is sent from Sprint towers, to the antenna that was installed on the roof of your establishment. Therefore, you cannot connect at Sprint Broadband speeds from home if your antenna is installed at work.
